來自美國的彼得洛亞(Peter Leue),將於10月26日、27日接續展開在木平台展覽空間及台北觀想藝術的木藝創作展。

彼得洛亞是一位滿腦子天馬行空、喜歡實驗、分秒專注,讓你一見驚艷的木頭藝術創作家!他善於將生活中常見的事物,如線軸、芭蕾舞者、綿羊…,轉化為創作素材,加上特有的幽默感,成為令人激賞的雕塑性家具或是互動作品,就像是一首「木的狂想曲」一樣。

此次他將來台與藝術愛好者們面對面分享創作想法,並展出超過五十件的精彩創作。

從孩提時期起,彼得洛亞就樂於學習新的事物,不管是焊接、釀酒…等,不斷地實驗不同的材質與技法,以探索創作的可能性。例如他的放大尺度物件系列,將常見的螺絲起子放大九倍,或是八倍大的圓規,試圖利用改變尺度的方式,讓人思索藝術與工具的差別。而人物系列以近真人的造型搭配各種不同功能的互動,有的是可以接受告解的教皇、有的是喋喋不休的收音機人,還有享受吞雲吐霧之樂的神秘男子,在與他們互動的時候,讓人不再侷限於材料或是工法,而是真正的與作者的創作企圖交流。

彼得的幽默感不僅僅是在作品中,也反映在作品的命名上,例如三隻羊形的腳凳被他命名為動物園三美圖,或是被命名為哥來亞(聖經中的巨人)的裁縫放大線軸桌,誰說正經的藝術不能是有趣的?

彼得洛亞的木藝創作不只是高品質的木藝追求,同時也強調其互動與藝術價值,靠著創作的靈感源源不絕,不斷地探索木工與藝術的邊界,如同他自己所說的「我總是有下一個要實行的點子,我希望乘著靈感而行,它帶著我展開一個旅程。」我們期待他將為台灣木藝市場注入新想像與新活力,歡迎大家參觀此次「狂想曲-彼得洛亞木藝創作展」,在細細體會賞心悅「木」之際,共同參與探索藝術家天馬行空的點子所帶來的小驚奇。

創作者自述

藝術家自述就像是一扇窗,能夠開啟通往作者們的創造性靈魂,它們通常裝飾著精挑細選的智慧寶石以及永恆的真實,至少這是讀者與藝術家本人所期望的。對我來說,創意的發展以及執行過程是非常模糊的,我在平凡的事物中發現瞬間清晰的視野,它們成為作品中重要的元素。其他的創意片段來自我周遭的隨機收藏,在它們整合至一件家具或雕塑前,有的已經放了幾十年。 (我想這樣應該有足夠的理由將那些”廢棄物”繼續存放在我的工作室和地下室。)

偶而某些名字及標題可以創造出一個心靈意象,讓一件完成的作品更加清晰,並使之更加純粹。有時某些單一概念的作品可以讓我延伸出相同主題的更多相關作品。例如:我一直對於帽子以及其他頭戴物做為道德、政治理念或是個性的表現很著迷,所以我的很多雕塑都表現出這些興趣。

這些靈感的時刻對我來說就像是呼吸一般,因此我需要它們。我創作時,幾小時就像是幾分鐘一樣。也許那些時間更像是靈魂出竅的經驗,因為似乎我越不試著控制我的手要做甚麼,也就越容易像個旁觀者。我渴望那些如同有著更高的源頭藉由我工作的時刻,對我來說我總是對各種呈現出來的想法保持開放的態度,並且樂於做為這趟旅程中快樂的乘客。

1968 BFA Rochester Institute of Technology, School for American Crafts, Rochester NY.Woodworking
and Furniture Design. Studied with master craftsmen Wendell Castle and William Keyser.
1969-1974 Graduate work required for permanent New York State teacher certification.
